Privacy policy
AnySwipe keeps a record of what you watch. This policy explains exactly what is stored, where it is stored, and what leaves your device.
What we store
Your account email, your chosen display avatar, and your watchlists — the titles you marked watched, watching or planned, plus episode progress. This data is held in Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage, operated by Google on our behalf.
If you ask on this site to be notified when the iOS version is released, we store that email address in Cloud Firestore and use it for exactly one email, sent through Resend, on release day. It is never used for anything else and never shared. To have it removed earlier, write to anyswipe.contact@gmail.com.
Signing in
You can sign in with Google or with an email address and password. With Google sign-in we receive your email address and account identifier; we never receive your Google password.
Linked services
Linking MyAnimeList is optional and uses MyAnimeList's official OAuth flow. When linked, AnySwipe reads your anime list and writes your swipes back to it. We store the access tokens MyAnimeList issues with your AnySwipe account so the link follows you: sign in on a new phone or after reinstalling, and your list keeps syncing without linking again. Unlinking MyAnimeList from the profile screen, or deleting your account, deletes the tokens.
Watch together sessions
When you join a group session, AnySwipe copies a selection of released titles from each participant’s plan-to-watch list into that session. Participants can see the suggested titles, how many members saved each title, and each member’s username and avatar, including an uploaded profile photo. They cannot open one another’s full watchlists or see individual yes-or-pass votes. Everyone sees the title chosen by unanimous vote. Sessions expire after seven days and are removed in the next daily cleanup; deleting your account removes any session you joined and its votes.
Catalogue and AI features
Titles, artwork, ratings and episode listings come from MyAnimeList, TVMaze, TMDB and the YouTube Data API. AI search and on-demand synopsis translation send only your search text or the synopsis to Google's Gemini API through our Cloud Functions; neither your identity nor your watchlist is included.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, a Firebase Cloud Messaging token is stored against your account so we can tell you when a tracked show releases an episode. Revoking the permission stops the alerts.
Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics in the app and Google Analytics on this website to understand feature usage and crashes in aggregate. We do not sell data.
Advertising
The free plan shows ads served by Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent before any ad is loaded, and you can change your choice at any time from Settings in the app. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's privacy policy. AnySwipe Plus removes advertising.
Subscriptions
AnySwipe Plus is purchased through Google Play, which confirms the purchase to our servers. We store the subscription's status, plan and expiry against your account, together with a hashed reference to the purchase. We never receive your payment details.
Security and abuse prevention
To detect automated and abusive sign-ups, the Android app uses Firebase App Check, which asks Google Play Integrity to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of AnySwipe on a genuine device.
Once a day after you sign in, the app sends our servers its version, its platform and a random identifier created for this installation. Your IP address and that identifier are recorded only as keyed hashes that change every day; neither is stored as is. These records, together with basic account details such as when the account was created, how you sign in and whether your email address is verified, are deleted after 30 days and are used only to review sign-up patterns. They do not lead to any automatic decision about your account, and deleting your account removes them.
Your data, your call
You can delete your account, watchlists and avatar permanently from account management or from Settings inside the app. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. For a copy of your data, or any question about this policy, write to anyswipe.contact@gmail.com.
Children
AnySwipe is rated for users aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. Adult-rated titles are filtered out of the catalogue.
